Knowledge is
something that everyone has. We think that we know things through preconceived
notions and things that are told to us. My definition of knowledge is from a
different perspective. More so my definition is pretty simple, an answer to a
question. But it is more than that. Discovering the truth for us to understand
something is real knowledge. In life, we are faced and confronted with many
things in our lives. A successful life involves the basic needs in order to
live. However, then you are confronted with the ability of knowledge and its
challenges. Certain questions that were presented in class made me think about
how I know the answer to an effortless answer. Clearly I was wrong.
How
do I know that I am an African American? This question is really interesting to
me because it would make me research my family history and trace it all the way
back to my roots, Africa. I do know that my grandparents from way back were
slaves in Africa. I don’t know where exactly but from my parents sharing this information,
I trust them. My relatives just like a lot of other blacks experienced the
clique life of a slave. Controlled by a plantation owner, harsh life etc. So, I
do know that I descend from Africa. I have always wondered if I am not one
hundred African-American but another ethnicity. I also found out that my
great-grandmother was from the Cherokee tribe. Wanting to know if I am part of
another ethnicity will include me really learning about my heritage, which will
enable some closure in my life. But for now, it will still be bewilderment to
me.
